Adventures of an Artist

Singing, designing, and writing are who I am. I'm looking for comments, critiques, and suggestions on my work, and I can't wait to share it!

I'm still a student, but I don't consider myself an aspiring designer. I am a designer. I design and create everyday.

Trench Coat finally finished!

Corset & Panty for my lingerie class.

Corset - Poly satin, china silk lining. Hand dyed lace and hand beaded with iridescent sequins and seed beads. Loops in the back also made by hand.

Panty - cotton jersey, stretch lace. Hand dyed lace. Decorative picot elastic, also hand dyed, at waist and leg hole.

Yarn Bomb! For all of you out there who know how to knit and/or crochet this is a really fun project. All you have to do is pick an object, any object at all (preferably in a public place) go out in the middle of the night and cover it with your pre-made yarn work! This is a picture of a table in my department at school which I covered with a crochet tablecloth, with a crochet granny-square and a bouquet of crochet flowers. Here’s a website with some other examples of yarn bombs for inspiration!

Really love this piece! It’s not something I’d usually do but I think it came out really well. I’m very excited to use real fabric and see how it turns out when it’s all done. I got stiff cotton twill that’s a neutral beige with a hint of green. I also found a colorful cotton plaid that I’m in love with that I’ll probably use on the inside of the collar/cuffs and as binding on the inside Hong-Kong bound seams.

Some color/swatch options. I got some satin in a variety of greys/blues and I got white bridal lace trim that I hand dyed and hand beaded with iridescent sequins and beads. I really wanted my corset to shimmer and shine, just like ice would.

First drape of my corset for lingerie inspired by ice and frost.

Added sleeve and collar… but full of pins. I’m going to sew this up and post new pictures by next week

Gown I made last semester =) If you’re ever in the New York City area she can be found proudly displayed at the Goldsmith Mannequin Inc. Showroom!

Love Effie Trinket and the Hunger Games but I wanted to post this because the sleeve detail on her dress is similar to the sleeves on my trench coat!

This week I’ve chosen to focus on the trench coat that I’m making in my cotton sportswear collection. I decided to spice up the traditional trench coat you’re always seeing with a few added details in addition to throwing myself out of my usual aesthetic. I’ve always been flowy and girly and overly feminine but for this I’m keeping the femininity but making it sleek and structured. I’m using a stiff 100% cotton twill fabric and I’ve incorporated a lot of pleats (ie. on the sleeve, in the front and I added pleats in the back so it’s a bit different from the sketch for woven-fit issues, but I think it still works with my original plan).

Will have more photos after class this week.
